98xx is a psychological horror game presented as a simulation of an old computer operating system. The player interacts with a virtual desktop that appears to come from the late 1990s. At first the environment looks like a typical computer interface with simple programs, files, and games. However, as the player continues exploring the system, unexpected glitches and unusual events begin to appear. The game gradually shifts from a nostalgic computer simulation into a disturbing experience that reveals hidden secrets inside the software.

Exploring An Old Computer System

At the start of 98xx, the player is presented with a desktop interface similar to early operating systems. The screen contains icons for different programs and folders that can be opened individually. Each application represents a small piece of the system that survived after the software was rediscovered many years later.

The player moves between programs in order to learn how the system works. Some applications behave like normal computer tools, while others contain mini-games or experimental features. The interface encourages curiosity because many files appear incomplete or corrupted. As the player interacts with them, strange details begin to emerge.

Programs And Hidden Files

Inside the system there are several interactive applications that the player can open and explore. These programs initially appear simple, but some contain hidden behaviors that only become visible after repeated interaction.

Common activities inside the system include:

  •         opening programs and browsing the desktop
  •         exploring folders containing unknown files
  •         playing built-in mini-games such as platformers
  •         discovering hidden data inside corrupted software
  •         activating events that change the system behavior

One program called Jumping Julian appears to be a normal 2D platform game at first. As the player continues using it, the game begins to behave strangely and reveal unexpected content.

Glitches And Unusual Events

As exploration continues, the operating system begins to change. Files may appear in different places, programs behave differently, and messages appear that were not present earlier. These anomalies create tension because the player never knows when the next unusual event will occur.

The game uses the familiar structure of a computer interface to hide its horror elements. Instead of direct confrontation with enemies, the experience focuses on subtle changes in the digital environment. The player gradually realizes that the system may contain more than ordinary programs.

98xx combines puzzle solving, exploration, and psychological horror. By opening programs, interacting with files, and investigating unusual glitches, the player slowly uncovers the deeper mystery hidden inside the computer system. The game transforms a simple desktop simulation into a narrative about corrupted software and the secrets left behind in a forgotten operating system.
