Reading the Instruments and Planning a Flight
Inside the 3D cockpit, you have access to instruments that display information about the aircraft’s speed, altitude, direction, and condition. You can use autopilot to maintain selected flight parameters or operate the controls manually. The navigation system helps you follow routes and locate airports, while the Instrument Landing System assists with runway approaches. Successful flying requires monitoring several systems rather than concentrating only on steering.
Dealing With Problems in the Air
Technical failures can occur during different stages of flight, forcing you to change your plans. The simulator includes engine management, fuel consumption, weather radar, and emergency equipment. Depending on the situation, you may have to continue toward the destination or prepare for a difficult landing.
Possible tasks include:
- Restarting engines or responding to engine fires.
- Adjusting fuel distribution to maintain aircraft balance.
- Managing icing, wind, and dangerous weather conditions.
- Operating landing gear when automatic systems fail.
- Using flaps, spoilers, and reverse thrust during landing.
- Correcting your approach when the aircraft is poorly aligned with the runway.
Each malfunction affects the decisions you must make before reaching the ground.
Choosing Between Missions and Free Flight
Extreme Landings Unlocked features 36 missions and 216 challenges, covering different flight conditions and emergency procedures. Fast Landing mode provides shorter exercises with five fault difficulty levels and competitive rankings. For longer sessions, worldwide navigation offers hundreds of airports, flight planning, and configurable weather conditions.
After completing a flight, you can examine your performance using the replay system. The simulator also tracks pilot rankings as you complete challenges. Whether you are approaching a runway during normal conditions or attempting to land with damaged equipment, the objective is to maintain control of the aircraft and complete the flight safely.
