Lootbound is a turn-based tactical roguelite where players explore a dark fantasy world, collect equipment, and assemble a team of adventurers. Developed by ArtDock, the game combines combat, inventory management, and dice-based decisions inspired by tabletop RPGs. Every run begins with a single hero who must recruit companions and prepare for increasingly difficult encounters. There is no traditional story campaign with dialogue-driven chapters. Instead, the adventure follows the player’s journey through different biomes toward a final battle against a Guardian assembled during the run.

Building a Party Along the Way

Players travel across a branching map containing battles, rewards, and special events. Each route offers different opportunities to obtain equipment or recruit allies. Every character has a separate inventory, so preparing the team requires distributing items between the main hero and companions. Equipment comes in different shapes and can be rotated to fit available inventory spaces. Some items produce auras that improve nearby equipment, making their placement important for developing effective combat combinations.

Turn-Based Battles and Inventory Decisions

Lootbound uses turn-based combat where players directly control the main hero while companions act automatically. Their effectiveness depends on the equipment and abilities assigned to them before battle.

The main gameplay activities include:

  •         Choose routes through a map containing different encounters.
  •         Fight enemies using the hero’s attacks and abilities.
  •         Recruit companions to expand the party.
  •         Collect weapons, armor, and equipment after battles.
  •         Rotate items to fit them into inventory grids.
  •         Place equipment near compatible items to activate aura bonuses.
  •         Enter special rooms and roll dice for valuable rewards.
  •         Prepare the team before confronting biome bosses.

Some special encounters offer rewards with different levels of risk. More valuable prizes require successful dice rolls against higher difficulty thresholds. Players must decide whether the potential reward justifies the possibility of failure.

Biomes and the Final Guardian

Lootbound does not use traditional numbered levels. Instead, progression follows a sequence of biomes containing branching routes, enemies, and boss encounters. At the end of each biome, players choose one of two boss parts. These selections determine the appearance and abilities of the Guardian encountered at the end of the adventure.

The roguelite structure encourages repeated attempts with different equipment combinations, companions, and route choices. A successful strategy depends on preparing the party, managing inventory space, and selecting rewards that support the current build.

The main objective is to survive the journey, assemble a team capable of handling difficult encounters, and defeat the final Guardian. Each run provides different opportunities to experiment with equipment placement and tactical decisions.
