Every fighter in Bloody Roar 2 has two different forms, and switching between them can change the outcome of a match. This 3D fighting game, developed by Eighting and Raizing, features characters who can transform into wolves, tigers, rabbits, and other creatures during combat. Players compete in one-on-one battles, using attacks, combinations, and transformations to defeat their opponents. Released for arcades and PlayStation, the game includes character-specific stories, several fighting modes, and a roster of zoanthropes with different abilities.
A Conflict Between Two Species
The events take place five years after the original Bloody Roar. The existence of zoanthropes has become public knowledge, leading to discrimination and conflict with ordinary humans. The Zoanthrope Liberation Front, an organization known as ZLF, claims to fight for zoanthrope rights but uses violence to pursue its goals. Each playable fighter becomes involved in these events for personal reasons. Yugo investigates matters connected to his past, Alice works to protect other zoanthropes, and additional characters have their own motivations and endings.
Human Form or Beast Form?
Combat revolves around choosing when to transform. Human forms provide access to standard fighting moves, while Beast forms introduce additional attacks and different combinations. Each fighter has a Beast Gauge that determines when transformation is available.
The main gameplay actions include:
- Move toward or away from opponents using directional controls.
- Perform punches and kicks to start combinations.
- Block attacks and look for opportunities to counter.
- Transform into Beast form when enough energy is available.
- Use character-specific attacks and throws.
- Perform Beast Drive moves for substantial damage.
- Combine regular and Beast attacks to pressure opponents.
Transformations are not permanent. Taking damage while transformed can eventually force a character back into human form. Beast Drive attacks also end the transformation, so players must decide whether using a powerful move is worth losing their current abilities.
Fighting Modes and Unlockable Characters
Bloody Roar 2 offers different ways to experience its combat system. Arcade Mode presents a sequence of computer-controlled opponents, while Story Mode provides character-specific narratives through illustrated scenes and battles. Versus Mode allows two players to compete directly, and Survival Mode challenges players to defeat consecutive opponents.
The roster includes Yugo, Alice, Long, Bakuryu, Jenny, Busuzima, Shina, Stun, and Uriko. Gado and Shen Long are also available as unlockable fighters.
There are no exploration stages or role-playing upgrades. Progression depends on winning matches, completing modes, and learning each character’s abilities. Players can replay battles with different fighters to discover their move sets and explore the individual stories connected to the larger zoanthrope conflict.
