Chicken Invaders puts the player in control of a small spacecraft defending Earth from an invasion of chickens from another galaxy. The attackers have arrived to take revenge on humanity for the treatment of chickens, but the story remains a simple background for the shooting action. The main objective is to destroy each formation, survive incoming attacks, and continue through increasingly difficult stages without losing all available lives.
Fighting the Chicken Invasion
The spacecraft stays near the bottom of the screen and can move horizontally while continuously firing upward. Chickens appear above in formations, move around the battlefield, and attack by dropping eggs. A direct hit from an egg, enemy, or dangerous obstacle costs one life. Because movement is limited, players must constantly judge where gaps will appear and avoid getting trapped near the edge of the screen.
Waves, Asteroids, and Power-Ups
Each stage contains ten levels with several different types of encounters. Some levels use organized chicken formations, while others replace them with asteroid showers or enemies moving around Earth. The tenth level is a boss fight against a large chicken that requires repeated attacks before the next stage can begin.
During a run, players need to:
- shoot chickens before their formations become dangerous;
- dodge eggs falling from above;
- avoid asteroids during special waves;
- collect food dropped by defeated enemies;
- pick up weapon upgrades to increase firepower;
- save missiles for crowded or difficult situations;
- defeat the boss at the end of each stage.
Food also contributes to missile rewards, while gift boxes and other upgrades strengthen the ship’s main weapon through several power levels. Missiles can clear enemies and enemy fire from the screen, making them useful when normal movement is no longer enough to avoid danger.
Surviving Longer Stages
Chicken Invaders does not follow a fixed sequence toward one final campaign level. After a stage is completed, another begins with faster enemies, tougher chickens, and more demanding attack patterns. This creates an endless progression where the main goal is to survive for as long as possible and build a higher score.
Success depends on keeping the ship moving, collecting upgrades without flying into danger, and recognizing how each wave behaves. Early formations leave plenty of room to dodge, while later stages require quicker reactions and better use of missiles. The repeated structure makes each run about improving survival time, maintaining stronger firepower, and reaching a stage farther than the previous attempt.
