Dead as Disco Demo is a rhythm-based beat ’em up where martial arts combat is synchronized with music. The player controls Charlie Disco, a former music icon trying to confront the Idols, his ex-bandmates who have become powerful musical figures. The demo introduces the main story through a short mission and shows how fights, movement, combos, and enemy attacks interact with the beat of each song.
Rhythm-Based Combat
Combat is built around punches, kicks, dodges, and combos that line up with the music. Attacking on the beat helps maintain the flow of a fight and makes it easier to chain actions together. Enemies also attack in rhythm, so listening to the music can help predict when an attack is coming. The tutorial introduces these mechanics through a fighting style called Beat Kune Do.
Story Mission and Modes
The demo contains several different activities:
- completing a tutorial for basic combat;
- fighting enemies in rhythm with the soundtrack;
- playing a story mission against the Idol Hemlock;
- exploring an underground concert area beneath the city;
- chaining punches, kicks, and combos;
- playing Infinite Disco, a wave-based combat arena;
- surviving increasingly long enemy waves;
- using a selection of 11 included songs;
- loading custom music into Infinite Disco.
Hemlock and Infinite Disco
The story mission sends Charlie into the subway system beneath the city, where Hemlock is holding an underground concert. Players fight through enemies before confronting him as the main target of the demo. This section gives a sample of the larger conflict between Charlie and the Idols.
Infinite Disco works differently from the story mission. Instead of progressing toward a fixed objective, the player fights continuous waves and tries to survive while maintaining effective combos. Custom MP3 tracks can be used in this mode, allowing fights to synchronize with music chosen by the player. Scores can also be compared through leaderboards. The main gameplay loop consists of listening to the rhythm, timing attacks and defensive moves, building combos, defeating groups of enemies, and adapting to increasingly demanding combat sequences.
