FNF Garcello refers to the Friday Night Funkin’ mod Smoke ‘Em Out Struggle, where Boyfriend meets Garcello in an alley while walking with Girlfriend. Garcello is smoking when the two encounter him and proposes a rap battle. What begins as a casual challenge gradually becomes the story of Garcello’s declining condition, with each song showing a different stage of the encounter. The mod was created by atsuover and Rageminer and is structured as one complete week built around Garcello.

Four Songs Tell the Whole Story

The week begins with Headache, where Garcello and Boyfriend compete without any major interruption. During Nerves, Garcello starts coughing and showing signs that something is wrong with his chest. After the song, his condition worsens and he dies, returning as a ghost made from the smoke around him. Release continues the battle in this new form, while Fading serves as the final song as Garcello gradually becomes transparent and eventually disappears.

The main sequence includes:

  •         Headache as the opening battle;
  •         Nerves, where Garcello’s condition begins to worsen;
  •         Release, performed after Garcello becomes a ghost;
  •         Fading as the final track;
  •         standard directional note matching;
  •         story dialogue between songs;
  •         visual changes to Garcello throughout the week.

The Character Changes During the Week

FNF Garcello does not use separate maps, exploration, or conventional levels. Each song functions as the next stage of the story, and Garcello’s appearance changes to match what is happening. During Nerves he begins sweating and coughing, while Release shows his ghost form. In Fading, both his body and cigarette become increasingly transparent until he disappears at the end.

Playing Through the Rhythm Battles

Gameplay follows the usual Friday Night Funkin’ system. Notes move toward the receptors, and the player presses the matching directional keys when they align. Accurate inputs maintain the health bar and score, while repeated misses can end the song. The charts become the main challenge because there are no attack mechanics, inventory items, upgrades, or character abilities to manage.

Completing all four songs finishes Garcello’s story within the mod. The progression is linear, so the player experiences Headache, Nerves, Release, and Fading in order when following the week normally. The final section is much shorter than the earlier battles and works as the conclusion rather than another long confrontation. Replay value mainly comes from returning to individual songs, improving note accuracy, and playing the Garcello material included in later projects such as Hazy River.
