Returning home becomes the beginning of a new occupation in Hozy. After life in the city does not work out, the protagonist moves back to a small hometown that has gradually lost its former activity. Instead of following a complex narrative with dialogue choices or major conflicts, the game tells its story through abandoned rooms and the belongings of their residents. By restoring these spaces, the player helps bring signs of life back to the neighbourhood.

From an Empty Room to a Finished Interior

Each level begins with a neglected space filled with rubbish, dust, dirty surfaces, and furniture that needs attention. The player removes waste, cleans windows and floors, repaints walls, changes wallpaper, and prepares the room for decoration. Objects can be picked up, moved, rotated, opened, or activated. Small interactions include arranging books, lighting candles, opening windows, switching on lamps, and testing appliances or decorative items.

Cleaning, Painting, and Decorating

Hozy contains nine locations, with each room connected to its resident through personal objects and environmental details. There are no timers, scores, penalties, or strict requirements for where furniture must be placed. Progress comes from completing the restoration process and moving to the next property. The main activities include:

  •         Collecting rubbish and clearing damaged rooms
  •         Washing floors, windows, and other surfaces
  •         Choosing paint, wallpaper, flooring, and window designs
  •         Opening boxes containing furniture and decorations
  •         Placing objects freely around the available space
  •         Interacting with lights, books, plants, and appliances
  •         Completing rooms to unlock further locations

Furniture does not need to follow a single correct arrangement. Players can preview items inside boxes, decide what to unpack first, and leave unwanted objects outside the room. Large pieces such as beds, sofas, tables, and shelves determine the basic layout, while smaller decorations can be added afterward. Since there is no time pressure, the player can repeatedly move items until the room matches the intended design.

Life After the Main Story

Controls are based on first-person movement and direct interaction with tools and objects. After completing the main sequence, previously restored rooms can be replayed through Game Plus with different furniture and occupants. Hozy also includes a Sandbox Mode that allows players to create interiors with available materials and decorations. The overall goal is not to earn a high score, but to complete all nine spaces, learn who lived there, and rebuild the neighbourhood one room at a time.
