MapTap is a geography game based on identifying locations on an interactive globe. Its main format is a daily challenge with five places to find. Each location is linked to a historical event that happened on the current date, so the game combines map knowledge with short pieces of historical context. There is no storyline with characters or missions. Progress comes from completing rounds, improving accuracy, and comparing scores.

Finding the Correct Location

For every round, MapTap gives the player a location prompt. The globe can be rotated and zoomed before making a guess. After the player taps a position, the game compares it with the real location and calculates how far away the guess was. Accurate guesses receive more points. The correct position is then shown, along with information connected to the place or historical event.

Modes and Challenges

MapTap includes several modes in addition to the standard daily game. Depending on the selected activity, players may have to work with countries, cities, borders, flags, rivers, or historical routes. Available gameplay includes:

•         a five-location Daily Game;
•         Find the Flag rounds;
•         timed Challenge sessions;
•         geography practice maps;
•         Frontier mode with limited room for mistakes;
•         Gauntlet challenges;
•         Versus matches against another player;
•         themed journeys based on real historical travel routes.

Some modes change the basic rules by adding a timer or ending the session after an inaccurate guess. Others are designed for practice and let the player focus on a specific geography topic. Historical journeys use routes connected with explorers and travelers, turning a sequence of locations into a themed map exercise.

Scoring and Progress

The scoring system is based mainly on distance. A tap close to the real position produces a better result than a guess made hundreds or thousands of kilometers away. In the daily challenge, the scores from all five rounds are combined into one final total. This makes consistency important, because one inaccurate guess can lower the overall result even if the other locations were found correctly.

MapTap can be played with a mouse on desktop or with touch controls on mobile devices. The player reads the prompt, adjusts the globe, taps the estimated position, and then continues to the next round. Accounts can be used to keep track of statistics, streaks, achievements, and leaderboard results. Additional modes and practice features are also available through MapTap+.
