Meccha Hunt is an online multiplayer hide-and-seek game in which players take one of two roles: Hunter or Meccha. There is no story campaign or traditional sequence of levels. Each match takes place on a selected map and lasts until the Hunter finds every hidden Meccha or the timer expires. Matches support up to 24 players, and players can join online rooms or create a room to play with friends.
Hiding by Changing Your Appearance
As a Meccha, the objective is to find a place on the map and blend into the surrounding environment. The character begins as a white figure that can be painted to match walls, floors, furniture, and other objects. Mecchas can also change their shape, adjust their size, select different poses, and place clones to confuse the Hunter. Once a hiding position is chosen, small differences in color, shape, or movement can reveal the player.
Searching as the Hunter
The Hunter explores the same map and must identify which objects or shapes are actually disguised players. Hunters move around the environment, aim with the mouse, and shoot suspected Mecchas. The main mechanics include:
- Painting the Meccha to match nearby colors
- Changing shape, size, and pose
- Creating clones
- Moving, jumping, and running
- Whistling or taunting
- Searching rooms for unusual objects
- Shooting hidden Mecchas as the Hunter
- Playing standard or Infected matches
In Infected mode, a captured Meccha becomes another Hunter instead of leaving the round. The number of Hunters therefore increases as more players are found, and the remaining Mecchas must continue hiding until the timer reaches zero.
Maps, Controls, and Progression
Meccha Hunt uses different maps rather than numbered stages, and players vote for the next map before a match begins. The game also includes achievements that award XP and increase the player level. These progression systems do not make a Meccha stronger during a match; they track accomplishments across games.
On keyboard, Mecchas move with WASD, jump with Space, run with Shift, change pose with R, enter paint mode with F, and whistle with Q. The mouse is used for looking around, painting, and interaction. Hunters use WASD and Space for movement, aim with the mouse, and fire with the left mouse button. Winning depends on remaining unnoticed as a Meccha or locating every hidden player before time runs out as the Hunter.
