Road to Jukai is a first-person psychological horror game about a taxi driver working night shifts in a remote part of Japan. The player transports passengers between small towns connected by dark forest roads, including routes near the Jukai. There is a story, and it develops across six nights rather than through a long sequence of conventional missions. The passengers become increasingly strange, and some of them may not be what they first appear to be. The larger mystery is connected to the forest, past tragedies, and supernatural events surrounding the region.

Driving Becomes Part of the Horror

Most of the gameplay takes place from the driver’s seat. The player follows roads between towns, watches for landmarks, and listens to passengers during the journey. Driving itself is important because the player still has to control the taxi while unsettling events happen inside or outside the vehicle. Looking away from the road at the wrong time can create additional problems, so observation and concentration become part of the tension.

Six Nights, Different Encounters

Road to Jukai does not use traditional numbered action levels. Instead, the game is divided into six nights, with each shift introducing new passengers, routes, conversations, and events. The story is non-linear, so choices and responses can affect how certain situations develop.

During a night shift, the player may need to:

  •         pick up passengers
  •         drive between remote towns
  •         follow directions and road signs
  •         listen to conversations
  •         respond to unusual requests
  •         watch the road and surrounding forest
  •         make decisions that affect later events

The passengers are central to the story because their behavior and requests reveal information about the region and its history. Some encounters appear ordinary at first and then become more disturbing as the journey continues.

Choices Shape the Journey

Road to Jukai includes multiple endings, so the six-night story does not always conclude in the same way. The player needs to pay attention to dialogue, environmental details, and the consequences of previous decisions. There is no combat-focused progression system, weapon collection, or character leveling. Progress comes from surviving each shift and uncovering more of the mystery. The basic gameplay loop remains consistent: begin the night, collect a passenger, drive through isolated roads, react to what happens during the trip, and continue until the shift ends or the player’s decisions lead the story in another direction.
