Tale’s Edge is a third-person action-adventure RPG set in Faerina, a living fairytale world inspired by darker versions of classic folklore. The player controls Red, a teenage huntress raised by the Huntsman after surviving the Wolf eight years earlier. When her mentor disappears, she leaves the forest to search for him. The story follows this investigation while introducing shifting factions, dangerous creatures, and characters whose relationships with Red can change depending on her decisions.

The Playtest Focuses on Stealth and Survival

The current playtest presents a stealth-oriented mission set inside enemy territory. The objective is to recover lost artifacts and escape without being detected. Instead of forcing one approach, the game allows players to rely on stealth, direct combat, movement, or a mixture of different tactics. Parkour is also part of traversal, letting Red move across natural terrain and reach different routes through an area.

Red Can Be Built Around Different Playstyles

Progression includes attributes, equipment, abilities, and loadout choices. Players can shape Red toward stealth, combat, crafting, or a more balanced approach. NPCs also react to previous behavior, remember interactions, and have their own goals and loyalties. This means conversations and decisions can affect later encounters instead of existing only as isolated dialogue scenes.

Players can:

  • explore Faerina in third person;
  • use parkour to move through the environment;
  • sneak through guarded areas;
  • fight enemies directly;
  • recover artifacts during missions;
  • customize Red’s attributes, gear, and abilities;
  • influence relationships through dialogue and decisions.

The World Continues to Change

Tale’s Edge does not appear to use a simple sequence of numbered levels. Its structure is built around quests, locations, dynamic encounters, factions, and player choices inside a larger connected world. Creatures can be hunted, harvested, or befriended, and actions can influence both Red’s development and what happens around her. The current playtest represents an early portion of these systems rather than the complete adventure.

A typical playtest session involves exploring an area, watching enemy movement, choosing a route, and deciding whether to avoid threats or confront them. Tale’s Edge focuses on stealth, strategic combat, parkour, exploration, RPG progression, and a reactive story where decisions can alter relationships and future events.
