WebConfessional is a psychological visual novel and chat simulator where the player takes the role of an “Angel” assigned to speak with people labeled as sinners. The job is not simply to listen. Angels are expected to persuade each person to repent, abandon harmful behavior, and become acceptable members of society. The game is structured around private online conversations rather than exploration or combat, with text chats and video calls forming the main interface.
Three Sinners Waiting for Judgment
There are three main routes, each centered on a different character: sweetkixx, UnknownError, and ST4RLITE. Every route contains roughly 6,000 words and focuses on a separate personality, personal history, and set of problems. Conversations gradually reveal why each person has been assigned to WebConfessional and how they view their own actions. The characters can manipulate, challenge, or become attached to the Angel, so dialogue choices affect both the relationship and the direction of the route.
A Conversation Can Go in Several Directions
Gameplay mainly consists of reading messages, responding to the current sinner, and deciding how the Angel should react to increasingly difficult conversations. The game includes video-call sections, and the completed version also features full voice acting for the three sinners. Eventually, each route reaches a Judgment where the player must decide whether to Absolve or Punish the person they have been speaking with.
Players can:
- choose dialogue responses during chats;
- speak with three different sinners;
- take part in video-call sequences;
- learn personal information through each route;
- decide whether to Absolve or Punish a sinner;
- reach four different endings for each character;
- replay routes to explore alternative outcomes.
The game does not use traditional levels. Instead, each sinner functions as a separate story route with multiple possible conclusions. Choices made during conversations influence how the relationship develops and which ending is reached. Because every character has four endings, completing one route does not reveal every possible outcome. The subject matter is intentionally dark and includes manipulation, obsession, depression, threats, cult-related themes, nihilism, religion, and discussions of death.
The Angel Is Not Just an Observer
A typical playthrough begins by selecting a sinner and entering a private conversation. The player reads their messages, responds to their arguments and confessions, and gradually decides whether to sympathize with them or enforce WebConfessional’s rules. There are no inventories, battles, or character upgrades to manage. Progress comes entirely from dialogue and judgment, with the main challenge being deciding how far the Angel should trust, confront, forgive, or condemn each person before the final decision is made.
