Cuphead + DLC: Wii U is an unofficial port of Cuphead created by The Latte Team. The game keeps the original run-and-gun structure, in which Cuphead travels across interconnected areas, enters individual stages, fights enemies, and defeats bosses. Most progression revolves around completing boss encounters and collecting contracts required to continue the story. The port is based on Cuphead rather than being a separate fan-made campaign with new characters or locations.
A Deal With the Devil
The story begins after Cuphead and Mugman lose a bet against the Devil. To avoid giving up their own souls, they agree to collect the soul contracts of other debtors. This sends them across several areas filled with unusual characters and bosses. Each major encounter represents another step toward completing the deal, while later events lead Cuphead and Mugman back toward the Devil himself.
The main gameplay elements include:
- Run-and-gun platforming stages
- Multi-phase boss battles
- Different weapons with unique firing patterns
- Special attacks and Super Arts
- Charms that modify character abilities
- Coins used to purchase equipment
- Parrying pink objects and attacks
- Multiple overworld areas with selectable stages
- Difficulty options for boss encounters
Learning Each Boss Pattern
Combat requires players to move, jump, dash, shoot, and parry while avoiding enemy attacks. Bosses usually change their behavior several times during a fight, introducing new attack patterns as their health decreases. Players must learn these patterns and choose suitable weapons or charms before attempting the encounter again. Parrying certain pink objects also builds the Super Meter, allowing stronger attacks to be activated during combat.
Moving Through the Inkwell Isles
Cuphead does not use a traditional numbered-level campaign. Instead, players explore overworld maps containing boss fights, run-and-gun stages, shops, and other encounters. Completing required battles gradually opens access to additional sections. Run-and-gun stages are more focused on platforming and standard enemies, while boss stages usually place the player directly against one large opponent with several phases.
To progress, players need to defeat bosses, collect their contracts, earn coins, and improve their available equipment. Weapons can be switched to suit particular fights, while charms alter abilities such as health, movement, or parrying. Although the project is currently titled Cuphead + DLC: Wii U, available information about the present build indicates that The Delicious Last Course content has not yet been implemented, so its playable content is centered on the original Cuphead campaign.
