Small Saga is a story-focused turn-based RPG set beneath the streets of London, where mice, rats, moles, squirrels, and shrews live in a medieval-style kingdom called Rodentia. The main character is Verm, a mouse whose tail was taken by the Yellow God of Death. He leaves his home and travels deeper into Rodentia to find this enemy, meeting new companions and becoming involved in conflicts that affect different parts of the underground kingdom.

Verm’s Journey Through Rodentia

The story follows Verm as he moves through settlements, underground areas, and territories controlled by different groups. During the journey, he meets party members with their own goals, including Siobhan, Bruce, and Gwen. Some characters want revenge against dangerous creatures, while others are connected to political conflicts within Rodentia. The campaign is linear and places strong emphasis on dialogue, character interactions, and major story encounters rather than open-ended exploration.

The main gameplay includes:

  •         Turn-based battles against animals and larger enemies
  •         A party made up of several playable rodents
  •         Character-specific skills and combat roles
  •         Boss-focused encounters
  •         Exploration of different areas of Rodentia
  •         Dialogue and story events between battles
  •         Weapons and abilities used during combat
  •         Progression without repeated grinding for experience

Battles Against Beasts and Titans

Combat is based on strategic turn-taking. Players choose actions for members of the party, use their individual abilities, and adapt to the strengths of each opponent. The game includes regular enemies as well as larger named opponents and titans, such as a water vole, a lab rabbit, and other unusual creatures. Battles are designed around specific encounters instead of repeatedly fighting weak enemies to raise levels, so progress is tied closely to the main adventure and its bosses.

Progress Without Grinding

Small Saga does not use conventional numbered stages. Its structure is based on connected locations, story chapters, and major battles that move Verm closer to his target. Players explore each area, talk to characters, participate in scripted events, and fight when conflicts occur. Party composition and available abilities become more important as the journey continues, especially during boss encounters where different skills can be used to manage damage and survive enemy attacks.

The main goal is to continue following Verm’s search for the Yellow God of Death while helping his companions with conflicts that become connected to the wider situation in Rodentia. The story combines the personal revenge plot with struggles involving rulers, social groups, and powerful creatures. Gameplay remains focused on exploration, dialogue, party-based combat, and boss encounters until the main storyline reaches its conclusion.
