Backrooms Lost Runners is a cooperative survival horror game set inside the endless corridors of the Backrooms. Players explore unstable liminal spaces, abandoned camps, shelters, and dark hallways while trying to survive hostile entities. The game has a storyline told through journals, audio recordings, floppy disks, and traces left by previous survivors. These clues gradually explain what happened before the player arrived and reveal more about the catastrophe affecting the Backrooms.

Sound Can Give Away Your Position

Entities react to sound, light, and movement, so careless actions can attract danger. Even speaking can become risky because the AI can respond to the players’ voices. Teams therefore need to communicate carefully, move quietly when necessary, and decide when it is worth making noise to help another player. Staying together provides more protection, but splitting up can make it easier to search distant rooms and find additional resources.

Exploration Includes Puzzles and Resource Management

The game does not consist only of walking through corridors. Players search lockers, camps, and shelters for useful items while solving environmental puzzles and completing quests. Food, clothing, tools, and other resources help maintain health, stamina, and sanity. The environments can also contain anomalies such as zero-gravity areas, teleportation gates, shifting walls, and spaces where normal physics stop working.

Progress comes from exploration, completing objectives, finding story material, and surviving long enough to reach safer areas or continue deeper into the Backrooms. New levels and entities are also being added as development continues.

A typical session involves entering a level, searching rooms for supplies, solving puzzles, and listening for nearby threats. Teams must decide when to stay together, when to separate, and how much risk to take for better loot or additional clues.
