Dirt Clicker is an incremental digging game where progress starts with a spoon and a small patch of dirt. The main objective is to dig deeper, collect useful items, sell valuables, and improve the tools and helpers that make excavation faster. There is no traditional story campaign with characters and chapters, but progression is built around reaching new underground layers and discovering what is hidden below them.

Digging and Progression

Each digging action removes more dirt and contributes to overall progress. As the player advances, new tools become available and the amount of material that can be cleared increases. The underground structure is divided into multiple layers, so progress is based on going deeper rather than completing separate traditional levels. Players can decide whether to move on quickly or continue exploring a layer to search for more items.

Helpers and Upgrades

Automation becomes an important part of the game after helpers are unlocked. Mushroom Buddies, Dirt Golems, Druids, and other workers can continue digging and reduce the need for constant manual input. A skill tree is used to improve different parts of the digging process, including loot chances, tools, and worker strength. Main activities include:

  •         digging through dirt and new underground layers;
  •         buying stronger tools;
  •         hiring and improving workers;
  •         unlocking more than five types of helpers;
  •         collecting more than 40 valuable items;
  •         improving abilities through the skill tree;
  •         using spells;
  •         searching for badges, relics, and puzzle pieces.

Treasures and Exploration

Digging can uncover valuables that can be sold to support further upgrades. Some finds are simple resources, while others are rare puzzle pieces or relics connected to deeper exploration. This creates a choice between focusing on faster progression and spending additional time clearing each layer more thoroughly.

The overall gameplay loop is based on digging, earning resources, upgrading equipment, expanding the workforce, and then reaching deeper layers more efficiently. As automation increases, the player spends less time performing every action manually and more time deciding which upgrades, workers, and bonuses should be prioritized. Statistics also allow players to check worker performance and see which parts of the digging operation are less efficient.
