House of the Locust is a horror escape game where the player is trapped inside a large house occupied by the Locust, a creature that patrols the building and kills anyone it catches. The objective is to complete a fixed escape sequence while staying alive long enough to reach the green EXIT door. There is no traditional story campaign with dialogue or chapters. The game is structured around one continuous run in which exploration, item collection, puzzle solving, and avoiding the monster all happen inside the same environment.

Searching for the Escape Items

The house contains corridors, side rooms, cabinets, crawlspaces, and puzzle areas that must be checked during the run. Important objects are not always found in exactly the same place, so memorizing one permanent route is unreliable. The player needs several items before leaving, including a Key, a Keycard, and a Wire Cutter. The Key can be hidden inside cabinets, while the Wire Cutter is connected to one of the main environmental puzzles.

Solving the Main Puzzle

One version of the house uses three colored cubes, while newer layouts can replace them with different shapes. The player must move these objects to their matching locations to release the Wire Cutter. The main escape sequence includes:

  •         finding the three required puzzle objects;
  •         moving them to their matching pads or sockets;
  •         collecting the Wire Cutter after the puzzle is complete;
  •         obtaining the Key needed for the exit;
  •         securing the Keycard;
  •         returning to the green EXIT door and using all required items.

Moving puzzle objects can leave the player exposed for long periods because they have to be pushed or carried through the house. This makes the Locust an active part of the puzzle rather than a separate enemy encounter. If the creature appears nearby, the player may need to abandon the direct route, move through another corridor, or use a crawlspace before continuing the task.

Escaping the House

The final part of a successful run is returning to the exit after all required items have been collected. The green EXIT uses separate locks for the Key, Keycard, and Wire Cutter, so reaching the door early is not enough. The player must remember where it is and return after completing the full objective chain.

House of the Locust is played by moving through the building, searching containers and rooms, interacting with puzzle objects, and using the environment to avoid the Locust. There are no numbered levels or combat upgrades. Progress is measured by how much of the escape sequence has been completed, and the run ends successfully only when the player unlocks the exit and passes through it.
