Lucid Cats is a first-person horror extraction game about entering shared dreams, collecting valuables, and escaping before the creatures inside the nightmare catch you. There is no traditional story campaign with a fixed protagonist or scripted chapters. Instead, each run begins when the players fall asleep and enter another dream. The goal is to collect enough valuables to meet the required quota, locate the exit, and wake up with the items secured. Dying inside the dream means losing everything collected during that attempt.
Searching a Dream That Keeps Changing
The dream environments are procedurally generated, so their layouts change between runs. Players cannot depend on memorizing one route to the exit and must explore again each time. Monsters move through these spaces while the group searches rooms and passages for valuables. Lucid Cats supports solo play as well as cooperative sessions for up to four players, and proximity voice chat means communication depends partly on how close the characters are to one another.
Loot First, Escape Second
Picking up an item does not automatically guarantee that it will become a permanent reward. The collected valuables only matter if the quota is reached and the player successfully finds the dream exit. This creates a choice between leaving after obtaining enough loot and continuing deeper into the level in search of additional valuables.
During a run, players need to:
- explore unfamiliar dream environments
- search for valuable objects
- avoid hostile creatures
- communicate with nearby teammates
- reach the required loot quota
- use security cameras and tracking tools
- locate the exit and escape alive
Lucid Cats does not have a conventional sequence of numbered levels. Its levels are generated dream environments that can have different layouts from one attempt to another. Between runs, the Laptop provides useful upgrades and tools, including security cameras and valuable trackers that help players understand the environment and locate useful items. These systems become important when exploring areas where simply walking into another room can expose the group to a monster.
Knowing When to Leave
The main gameplay loop is based on risk management. Collecting more valuables can improve the result of a successful run, but staying in the dream also increases the chance of dying and losing the entire haul. Teams can remain together for protection or separate to search more territory, while solo players must manage exploration and survival without help. Lucid Cats therefore revolves around repeated runs: enter a changing nightmare, gather enough loot, use available tools to navigate it, avoid the creatures, and find the exit before the attempt ends with nothing.
