Power Hungry Pets is a competitive card game in which every participant keeps only one hidden card. Each card has a value from 0 to 10 and an ability that can reveal information, exchange cards, provide protection, or eliminate an opponent. The box contains 21 cards and seven victory tokens. There is no storyline, campaign, or character development; the animal theme is presented through the illustrations and names of the card abilities.
Choosing What to Keep
At the beginning of a round, every player receives one card, and another card is removed face down so its identity remains uncertain. On each turn, the active player draws from the central pile, compares the new card with the one already held, and selects one to keep. The other card is placed face up in front of the player, and its action is performed immediately. Played cards remain visible instead of entering a shared discard pile.
Powers Behind the Numbers
Keeping the higher number can improve the chance of winning the final comparison, but playing a strong card may produce a more useful effect. For example, Hermit Home Swap forces an exchange, Battle Bunny compares two hidden values, and Crystal Bowl eliminates a target after a correct guess. Shell Shield protects a player’s card until their next turn, while Royal Robovac can defeat King Cat under a specific end-of-round condition.
Several important actions include:
- King Cat has the highest value but eliminates its owner if played face up.
- Not a Pet! forces the King Cat holder to exchange cards.
- Jittery Juggler redistributes the cards held by active players.
- Doggy Grave Digger examines the card removed during setup.
- Snake Sorcerer makes another player discard their hidden card.
- Battle Bunny eliminates the participant holding the lower value.
- Mouse Trapper secretly repositions the next card in the Draw Pile.
Rounds Based on Survival and Value
Power Hungry Pets does not contain numbered levels, maps, equipment, or unlockable stages. Instead, the game consists of separate rounds. A player affected by an elimination ability reveals their hidden card and stops taking turns for the remainder of that round. If only one participant remains, that person immediately receives a victory token. Otherwise, play continues until the Draw Pile is empty.
