PUBG: Black Budget is a tactical extraction shooter set on a mysterious island trapped in a time loop. The player takes the role of a Contractor sent to recover secret technology from an abandoned research facility. The island is affected by a supernatural phenomenon called the Anomaly, while the larger mystery is connected to a classified initiative known as SAPIENS. Each expedition combines exploration, combat, looting, and extraction rather than following a traditional sequence of story levels.

Raids and Exploration

Each raid lasts up to 30 minutes and takes place on a 2.5 × 2.5 km open-world island. The map contains different biomes, points of interest, and underground research facilities. Players search these locations for artifacts, equipment, and other valuable items while fighting both hostile entities and rival Contractors. The Anomaly gradually reduces the playable area, making later parts of a raid more dangerous.

Loot, Combat, and Extraction

The main gameplay loop is based on deciding how much risk to take during each expedition. Players can:

•         explore the island and underground facilities;
•         fight hostile creatures and other players;
•         collect weapons, equipment, and artifacts;
•         complete faction contracts and missions;
•         search for secret technology;
•         decide when to leave the island;
•         extract successfully to keep collected loot;
•         lose carried equipment if they die before extraction.

Base and Character Progression

Between raids, players return to a personal Base that can be expanded over time. It contains crafting stations, storage upgrades, research facilities, and structures that can generate income. The research station also helps develop the story surrounding the artifacts and SAPIENS. Three rival factions provide contracts, reputation rewards, and faction-specific equipment.

Long-term progression includes character skills, proficiencies, weapons, and equipment customization. Players can prepare different loadouts before entering a raid, but every item brought onto the island is at risk. Difficulty also increases according to player level and the amount of time spent inside the current loop. This creates a repeated cycle of preparing at the Base, entering the island, completing objectives, collecting valuable gear, and deciding whether to extract safely or remain longer for additional rewards.
