FNF Baddies is a story-based Friday Night Funkin’ mod that connects several character-focused battles into one campaign. Instead of using the usual format of unrelated opponents appearing for a few songs each, the mod follows a sequence involving Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Stephanie, Cassette Girl, Jasmine, Casanova, and other characters. Cutscenes between songs explain how one encounter leads to another, while the music acts as the main form of progression. The campaign also changes playable characters and situations depending on the section being played.
The Campaign Moves Between Different Characters
The opening part focuses on Stephanie, also known as Stalker Girl, whose obsession with Boyfriend develops into the first major conflict. Her section includes Encounter, Insane, Uhoh, and Drift, with the story changing after each performance rather than resetting. Later, the campaign moves away from Stephanie and gives more attention to Cassette Girl and Jasmine, so the mod gradually shifts its cast instead of remaining centered on one opponent.
The main structure includes:
- several connected story sections;
- Stephanie as the first major opponent;
- Cassette Girl in Kagayaku Kassetto, Donnie Soft, and Malfunction;
- Jasmine as another central opponent;
- animated dialogue and cutscenes;
- Story Mode progression;
- additional Freeplay songs and alternate versions;
- standard directional rhythm controls.
Each Section Has Its Own Setup
Cassette Girl’s part takes place in a different context from Stephanie’s storyline. Her songs begin with a meeting involving Boyfriend and gradually introduce visual glitches that become more noticeable as the sequence continues. Jasmine’s section changes the focus again and uses her own set of songs, including Foreplay and Ay Papi. These shifts make the campaign feel divided into separate episodes even though they belong to the same mod.
The Songs Work as the Levels
FNF Baddies does not contain explorable stages or a map where the player moves between missions. Each song functions as a level, and completing it allows the story to continue through another cutscene or battle. Gameplay follows the regular Friday Night Funkin’ system: the player watches incoming arrows, presses the matching controls at the correct time, and tries to prevent the health bar from falling too far.
There are no equipment upgrades, inventories, or experience points between songs. Difficulty comes from learning the charts, adapting to different note patterns, and dealing with changes introduced by particular sections. Players can follow the campaign in order to see the full sequence of events or return to individual tracks through Freeplay when they want to practice specific songs.
