Homer Nightmares is a horror adventure where a visit to Bart’s house turns into an escape from a dangerous version of Homer. Bart invites the player to spend several days with the Simpsons, but something is clearly wrong when Marge and Lisa disappear and Homer begins behaving aggressively. The player has to search the house, complete chores, collect important items, and gradually discover what is hidden behind the boarded basement.
Ordinary Chores Hide the Real Objective
The first part of the game revolves around tasks inside the Simpsons’ house. Completing Bart’s chores keeps the situation moving while the player searches for tools needed to access restricted areas. Items such as a hammer, shovel, and access card are found in a specific sequence, so skipping one can block further progress. Exploration covers the house, backyard, garage, and eventually the basement.
The Basement Changes Everything
After opening the basement, the player discovers Marge and Lisa trapped below the house. Reaching them requires additional steps, including finding a frozen cage key and using hot water to make it usable. Homer eventually becomes a direct threat, forcing the player into a safe room where an axe can be collected for the confrontation.
Players can:
- complete chores around the house;
- search rooms for useful tools;
- open the boarded basement;
- dig up a hidden access card;
- solve item-based progression puzzles;
- escape from Homer during chase sequences;
- fight Homer and rescue the family.
Escaping Requires Destroying the Basement
Defeating Homer does not immediately finish the story. After Marge and Lisa are freed, the player must locate three sticks of dynamite scattered around the basement and place them in the correct positions. The group then runs upstairs while the explosives destroy the area. A final red-hallway chase provides one more escape sequence before the chapter ends.
The story continues beyond the initial escape. In Chapter 2, the player wakes inside the damaged Simpsons house, clears debris from the basement, calls emergency services, and survives another timed chase. Bart is taken away, pushing the remaining characters toward Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. Homer Nightmares combines linear exploration, item hunting, environmental puzzles, chases, and scripted horror encounters into a story about uncovering what happened to the Simpsons family.
