Logan returns to Team X in Marvel’s Wolverine after spending three years away from the group. The story follows him as mutants are hunted and captured by the Reavers, a cybernetic militia working for industrialist Bolivar Trask. Logan joins allies such as Jean Grey, Mystique, and Sabretooth while uncovering more about his own missing memories and the events connected to his past. The game is a single-player action adventure with a linear story structure rather than an open world.
Story and Locations
The campaign moves through several different regions instead of keeping Logan in one city. Confirmed locations include the Canadian Wilderness, Tokyo, Madripoor, and Telambang, where the opening mission sends Team X into a Trask facility. Story missions combine combat, exploration, stealth, and scripted sequences, while optional areas can contain conversations, collectibles, upgrade materials, and additional information about Logan’s past.
Combat and Exploration
The main gameplay systems include:
- close-range attacks with Wolverine’s adamantium claws;
- building Rage through aggressive combat;
- using swappable Techniques and Adaptations;
- stealth takedowns and ambushes;
- fighting Reavers and major Marvel villains;
- using Enhanced Senses to track scents and locate clues;
- collecting upgrade materials and whisky bottles;
- entering optional Nightmare Trials.
Combat is built around staying close to enemies and maintaining pressure rather than fighting mainly at long range. Logan can combine claw attacks, Rage abilities, environmental interactions, and different Techniques to deal with groups or stronger opponents. Enhanced Senses are also used outside combat to follow trails, detect useful information, and search locations more carefully.
Missions and Progression
Marvel’s Wolverine does not use traditional numbered levels or an open-world map. Progress comes through story missions set in different locations, with exploration sections and optional activities placed along the route. Nightmare Doors lead to timed Nightmare Trials, which transform familiar areas into vertical challenge courses and reward Logan with forgotten memories when completed. Hidden crates provide materials used for upgrades.
Playing effectively requires switching between direct combat, stealth, and exploration depending on the situation. Techniques and Adaptations allow Logan’s abilities to be adjusted, while Rage rewards continuous aggression during fights. Boss encounters and stronger enemies require more attention to timing and positioning than ordinary Reavers. Outside combat, searching rooms and following sensory clues can uncover collectibles, optional conversations, and details connected to Logan’s history, making exploration part of character progression as well as the main story.
