My Ex Is a Jerk is a visual novel about moving on after a difficult breakup and reconsidering relationships that were previously seen only as friendships. The protagonist has recently ended a relationship with a boyfriend whose behavior had been causing problems for some time. Instead of focusing on revenge against the ex, the story follows the period afterward, when the protagonist begins rebuilding their life and paying more attention to people who have always been close. Players can choose a male or female protagonist.

My Ex Is a Jerk is a visual novel about moving on after a difficult breakup and reconsidering relationships that were previously seen only as friendships. Players can choose a male or female protagonist.

Two Familiar Faces Become Possible Romances

The available romance routes focus on the Monteiro twins. Chiara Monteiro is the protagonist’s childhood best friend, described as supportive, honest, and consistently present when help is needed. Her twin brother Dylan has recently returned from a long journey. He is quieter and more reserved, but notices small details about the people around him. Both characters already have a connection to the protagonist, so the romantic story develops from existing relationships rather than meetings with complete strangers.

Three Days of Choices and Conversations

Gameplay follows the standard visual-novel structure of reading scenes, talking with characters, and selecting responses at important moments. Choices influence relationships and can change how interactions develop. The current version contains three in-game days and two CG illustrations, with additional days, events, CGs, and interactions planned as development continues. The tone combines drama, comedy, romance, and everyday slice-of-life situations.

Players can:

  •         choose a male or female protagonist;
  •         follow Chiara’s romance route;
  •         follow Dylan’s romance route;
  •         make choices that influence relationships;
  •         experience three days of story content;
  •         unlock two CG scenes;
  •         replay conversations to explore different choices.

The game does not use combat, exploration levels, inventories, or character statistics. Most progression happens through dialogue and relationship development. Scenes focus on how the protagonist reacts to the breakup, how existing friendships begin to change, and whether either of the Monteiro twins could become something more than a friend.

Moving Forward After the Breakup

A typical playthrough consists of reading conversations, choosing responses, and following the protagonist through several days after the end of the relationship. The two romance candidates provide different personalities and relationship dynamics, while the player’s choices determine how close the protagonist becomes to them. My Ex Is a Jerk is currently still in development, so the existing three-day story is intended to expand with more interactions and events in future updates.
