Obsession Syndrome is a visual novel where the player controls Kyotomi, a yandere serial killer who develops an obsession with a young man named Fuyu. Instead of trying to escape from a dangerous admirer, the player takes the role of the obsessed character. Kyotomi wants Fuyu to belong to him and becomes increasingly concerned about anyone who might interfere. The story follows his attempts to gain Fuyu’s trust, build affection, learn more about him, and decide how far he is willing to go to remove potential obstacles.

Twenty Days to Get Closer

The full story is structured around 20 in-game days rather than traditional action levels. Each day continues Kyotomi’s relationship with Fuyu and can introduce conversations, new information, or situations requiring a decision. The central objective is not to reach an exit or defeat enemies in combat. Instead, progress comes from navigating social situations and choosing how Kyotomi responds when other people become involved in Fuyu’s life.

Choices, Affection, and Consequences

Gameplay follows a visual novel format, so most interaction is based on reading scenes and selecting choices. Players can expect to:

  • follow conversations between Kyotomi and Fuyu;
  • make decisions during important scenes;
  • work toward earning Fuyu’s trust and affection;
  • learn additional information about the characters;
  • decide how to deal with people Kyotomi sees as obstacles;
  • follow different branches created by previous decisions;
  • reach different endings based on the route taken.

There is no combat-focused progression, equipment system, or open-world exploration. The main challenge comes from deciding how Kyotomi should act and seeing how those decisions affect his relationship with Fuyu and the people around them.

Several Ways the Relationship Can End

Obsession Syndrome is designed around multiple conclusions rather than one fixed ending. The planned main outcomes include Bad, Good, Rejection, Friendzoned, and Comfort endings, with two additional side endings. This means a playthrough can lead to very different results depending on how the relationship develops and what actions Kyotomi takes during the story.

The game contains mature themes involving stalking, violence, murder, kidnapping, sexual references, and death, all connected to Kyotomi’s obsessive behavior. To play, the user mainly advances dialogue, reads character interactions, and chooses responses when decisions appear. Obsession Syndrome focuses on the unusual perspective of playing as the yandere character and determining whether Kyotomi’s pursuit of Fuyu ends in affection, rejection, friendship, or a more dangerous outcome.
