Probably Stolen is a pawnshop management game set in the lower districts of a space station. You play as a former scavenger who has acquired a shop using borrowed money. Your main objective is to earn enough to buy the business before increasing rent makes it impossible to continue. To achieve this, you must trade with customers, manage inventory, produce goods, and decide which transactions are worth the risk.

Customers and Story

The station is divided between different social groups, and their conflicts affect your business. Customers include security officers, revolutionaries, criminals, and members of the former elite. Some want to sell ordinary possessions, while others offer stolen merchandise or request illegal services. Your decisions can influence your reputation with different factions. Another threat comes from Augs, people controlled by rogue artificial intelligence chips. You must identify suspicious visitors without accusing innocent customers.

Trading and Shop Management

Most gameplay takes place inside your shop, where you examine products, negotiate prices, and prepare items for sale. Different types of merchandise require different procedures. For example, you can test water, inspect cigarette packages, modify firearms, and evaluate rare objects. Some products can be manufactured using equipment and chemical recipes.

Your daily responsibilities include:

  •         Buying goods from customers at negotiated prices.
  •         Checking whether valuable items are authentic.
  •         Setting selling prices and monitoring demand.
  •         Producing merchandise using available machines.
  •         Obtaining licenses for restricted products.
  •         Deciding whether to accept illegal transactions.

You interact with objects directly, moving and examining them before completing transactions. As your business develops, you can purchase additional equipment, unlock production methods, and expand the range of products you sell. You may specialize in weapons, chemicals, water, farming, or stolen goods. Each approach has different costs and opportunities. Selling counterfeit products or handling contraband can increase profits, but these activities also create risks involving customers and security.

Progression and Endings

Probably Stolen does not follow a traditional sequence of numbered levels. Instead, progression depends on how successfully you operate the business over multiple days. Rent increases as time passes, forcing you to improve your income and control expenses. Poor decisions can lead to bankruptcy, while successful trading allows you to purchase the shop and complete your main objective. Different starting specializations and faction relationships make it possible to approach the game in several ways. Your financial results and decisions determine how each run ends.
