Snowed Under is a single-player psychological horror game from Chilla’s Art. The player enters a snow-covered mountain area and must dig through deep drifts while moving toward a distant steel tower. The game uses a first-person perspective and combines exploration, resource collection, equipment upgrades, and environmental storytelling. Its estimated completion time is between two and four hours.

Story and Setting

The story follows an unnamed protagonist traveling through a region buried beneath heavy snow. Buildings, supplies, and other objects are hidden below the surface, while the reason for the area’s condition is initially unclear. Conversations with the protagonist’s friend Kai continue as the days pass, gradually revealing information about both characters and the events surrounding the mountain.

Digging and Exploration

Shoveling snow is the central gameplay mechanic. Players must clear paths, uncover resources, and decide which direction to explore while maintaining progress toward the tower. Scrap materials discovered beneath the snow can be used to improve the shovel and increase digging efficiency.

The main gameplay elements include:

  • clearing large areas of snow with a shovel;
  • collecting scrap and other useful materials;
  • upgrading equipment to dig more efficiently;
  • discovering buried buildings and landmarks;
  • speaking with Kai between stages of the journey;
  • investigating clues about previous events.

Snowed Under does not appear to use traditional numbered levels. Progress is instead divided by distance, days, discovered locations, and shovel upgrades. New sections of the mountain become accessible as the player removes more snow. Buried landmarks act as major points of interest and may contain supplies, environmental clues, or dangerous discoveries connected to the central mystery.

How to Play

Players move through the environment in first person, choose where to dig, and use the shovel to remove snow blocking the route. Collected scrap should be spent on upgrades that reduce the time and effort required to reach deeper areas. Exploring optional buildings may provide additional information, but the main objective is to continue toward the steel tower. Players should observe the environment, inspect uncovered structures, follow conversations with Kai, and prepare for threats hidden beneath the snow. Exact keyboard, mouse, and controller bindings have not yet been confirmed because the game is still in development and does not currently have an announced release date.
