Lethal Company is a cooperative horror game where players work as contracted employees collecting scrap from abandoned industrial moons. The main objective is to gather enough valuable materials to meet profit quotas set by a corporation called the Company. Players explore dangerous facilities filled with traps, environmental hazards, and hostile creatures while trying to return safely to their ship before time runs out. The game combines survival horror, exploration, teamwork, and physics-based interactions inside procedurally generated locations.

Gameplay and Exploration

The gameplay takes place from a first-person perspective and supports both solo play and cooperative multiplayer. Players land on different moons and enter abandoned buildings to search for scrap items that can later be sold for credits. Facilities contain randomly generated rooms, meaning layouts change between missions. Exploration is dangerous because monsters and environmental hazards can appear at any moment during scavenging runs.

Communication is an important part of survival. Teams often split up to search faster while using voice chat and scanners to coordinate movement. Players can carry tools such as flashlights, walkie-talkies, ladders, and stun equipment to improve survival chances. Inventory space is limited, so players must decide which scrap items are worth carrying back to the ship. If everyone dies or fails to return before midnight, collected resources are lost.

Moons and Survival Features

Different moons function like levels with varying difficulty and environmental conditions. Some locations contain more valuable scrap but also stronger enemies and more dangerous hazards. Weather systems such as fog, flooding, lightning storms, and eclipses can affect visibility and movement during missions.

The game includes several major features:

  • Cooperative multiplayer for up to four players
  • Procedurally generated facilities and layouts
  • Scrap collection and quota progression
  • Hostile creatures with different behaviors
  • Unlockable moons, tools, and ship upgrades

Players can spend earned credits on equipment, cosmetic decorations, or access to more profitable moons.

Story and Progression

Lethal Company does not use a traditional story campaign with cutscenes or chapters. Instead, the narrative is presented through the world itself, abandoned facilities, journal entries, and the behavior of the Company organization. Players act as workers trapped in a cycle of collecting scrap and meeting increasing quotas. The lack of detailed explanations creates mystery around the moons, creatures, and corporation controlling the operations.
