The Walten Files 5 can be imagined as a horror adventure set inside a closed television studio that once produced advertisements for Bon’s Burgers. The player controls a video editor hired to recover unfinished commercials before the studio’s archive is cleared. During the first night, an unmarked reel appears in the editing room. It contains footage of the Walten family, empty restaurant halls, and an animatronic that changes position whenever the recording is replayed.

Editing Footage From the Past

The studio contains recording sets, editing rooms, prop storage, sound booths, and a basement filled with discarded tapes. Each chapter begins with a damaged video that must be restored. The player searches the building for missing film sections, audio tracks, and production notes before assembling them at the editing desk.

The recovered material includes:

  • Bon’s Burgers television commercials
  • Interviews with former Bunny Smiles employees
  • Home videos recorded by the Walten family
  • Maintenance footage showing the animatronics
  • Audio tracks with hidden voices
  • Photographs taken inside restricted rooms
  • Production notes containing dates and access codes

The order in which the clips are assembled affects what appears in the completed recording. A wrong scene may introduce a person who was not present or remove important evidence from the next chapter.

Threats Beyond the Screen

Every restored video changes part of the studio. Restaurant decorations appear on the sets, recorded voices play through disconnected speakers, and corridors begin resembling areas shown in the footage. Bon can move between television screens, while Sha appears when recordings connected to Rosemary are played.

The player cannot use weapons. Security shutters can block a corridor temporarily, and studio lights can reveal movement behind curtains. Sound equipment may be used to attract an animatronic to another room, but loud noises can also activate threats elsewhere. Electricity is limited, forcing the player to choose between lighting, security cameras, and editing equipment.

Finishing the Last Broadcast

The campaign is divided into several broadcasts, each connected to a different event in the history of Bon’s Burgers. Completing them reveals more about Jack Walten, Felix Kranken, Rosemary, Edd, and Molly. Optional footage provides additional context and changes the final recording.

In the last chapter, the player must broadcast a reconstructed tape through the studio’s main transmitter. Bon moves through the sets while the video is being processed, so the player must keep the equipment running and prevent him from entering the control room. The ending depends on which scenes were accepted as real and which were removed. The Walten Files 5 combines media restoration, exploration, stealth, resource management, and a mystery told through altered recordings.
