Feeding the Great Maw requires more than placing stronger weapons in front of the mountain. Dwarf Eats Mountain is an incremental strategy game where dwarves extract gold from a living landform while dealing with its defensive response. The Great Mother creates hazards as the damage increases, and the colony must continue working while rocks and other disasters threaten the transport route. The game also contains a background story about ancient gods, the World Spire and the secrets found below the usual mining depth.

Choosing Workers and Siege Equipment

Players build their economy by hiring units with different functions. Ballistas, dynamite throwers, flamethrowers and laser cannons focus on damaging the mountain. Brewers, rune smiths and spelunkers improve production or support other workers, while bulldozers and gyrocopters add further options to the operation. Upgrades increase their output, and active rituals provide temporary effects that can be used when the colony needs a short increase in damage, transport or another resource.

When More Gold Creates a Problem

Gold cannot be spent until runners carry it back from the mountain. If the attack produces resources faster than they can be transported, piles of uncollected gold begin to form. Runners also have to move through falling debris, so their speed and survival matter as much as their carrying capacity. Players need to identify whether damage or delivery is limiting progress and direct the next upgrades toward that weaker part of the system.

The available progression options include:

  •         recruiting offensive and support dwarves;
  •         constructing several types of siege machines;
  •         increasing runner speed and carrying capacity;
  •         performing rituals for active bonuses;
  •         collecting over 120 ancient artifacts;
  •         unlocking more than 96 prestige upgrades;
  •         spending mithril and mountain souls on lasting effects.

Changing Strategy After a Restart

Artifacts modify how the colony works and can create combinations between units, resources and rituals. A relic that appears weak by itself may become useful when paired with another effect that supports the same worker type. Players display collected artifacts in a gallery and choose which ones fit the current build. Limited resources such as mithril and mountain souls require additional planning because they can be invested in different permanent improvements.

There are no standard numbered levels with separate maps. A run develops through production milestones, new unlocks and increasing resistance from the mountain. Prestige restarts the current attempt but provides bonuses that make later runs faster and allow different strategies to become practical. Players continue by rebuilding the colony, collecting additional artifacts and reaching deeper progression stages. The central task is to maintain a working balance between attacking the mountain, recovering the gold and surviving the consequences of faster extraction.
