Tomodachi Life is a life simulation game that allows players to create a population of Mii characters and observe how they interact on a shared island. The game does not follow a fixed storyline with a beginning and ending. Instead, it generates its own stories through the relationships, decisions, and daily activities of the residents. Every island develops differently depending on the characters that players create and the choices they make while managing the community.

Starting a New Island

The first step is creating residents and moving them into an apartment complex. Players can design Miis from scratch or recreate real people they know. Once characters settle into their new homes, they begin living independently and developing their own personalities and interests.

The island gradually expands as additional residents arrive. New interactions become possible as friendships form, rivalries emerge, and characters begin spending time together. The player acts as an observer and helper rather than directly controlling every action.

Managing Everyday Situations

Residents regularly encounter situations where they need assistance. Some want new clothes, others are looking for friendship advice, and some need help making important personal decisions. Solving these requests rewards players with money, items, and new customization options.

Activities available throughout the game include:

Over time, friendships may evolve into romances, and some couples can eventually marry. New events continue appearing as the population grows, creating a dynamic simulation where the social lives of residents constantly change.
