WAN2TALK? is a developing visual novel and chat simulator set during the first day of summer in a quiet Appalachian town. The protagonist is a community college student who notices a flyer for a paranormal investigation club on a campus bulletin board. Taking the flyer leads to a private online chatroom filled with strangers who are interested in ghosts, unexplained events, and the origin of the mysterious forum. The story combines romance, horror, Y2K-style internet nostalgia, and choice-based conversations.
Entering the Private Chatroom
Much of the interaction takes place through a simulated computer interface. Players create a name and username, select pronouns, read group messages, and choose responses during conversations. Dialogue choices affect how other members react and can open different scenes with individual characters. The current version functions as a prologue, while future updates are planned to expand the game into multiple chapters.
Conversations, Routes, and Decisions
WAN2TALK? does not use traditional levels with combat stages or numbered maps. Progress is divided into story scenes, chat sessions, meetings, and character-focused routes. The main activities include:
- Reading messages in public and private chats
- Selecting replies during conversations
- Customizing the protagonist’s basic identity
- Learning about the paranormal investigation group
- Building relationships with four planned love interests
- Discovering hidden dialogue and unusual interface events
- Making choices that can lead to different outcomes
The game uses slow-burn relationship development, while planned features include character customization, urban exploration, and minigames. Some decisions can also unlock alternative dialogue during later playthroughs.
The player should examine the desktop carefully instead of advancing every message immediately. Files, usernames, interface changes, and optional conversations may contain information about the group or the person who created the forum. Choosing a response is the main form of control, so the player must decide whether to be friendly, cautious, curious, or dismissive when speaking with unfamiliar people.
What Is Hidden Behind the Forum?
The larger mystery concerns why the flyer appeared in this particular town and who created the private space. The group begins as a collection of lonely strangers discussing paranormal subjects, but the atmosphere gradually introduces more disturbing themes. WAN2TALK? is currently in development for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and the creators state that it is intended for a mature audience because future chapters may contain upsetting material.
