A single shot can clear half the board or leave the most important peg untouched in Peggle. The game is built around launching balls into layouts filled with colored pegs and trying to remove every orange target before the available shots run out. There is no traditional story campaign with dialogue or quests. Instead, progression comes from completing boards, meeting different Peggle Masters, and learning how their special abilities can change the result of a shot.

Instead, progression comes from completing boards, meeting different Peggle Masters, and learning how their special abilities can change the result of a shot.

Aim, Bounce, and Clear the Orange Pegs

Each level begins with a launcher positioned above the playfield. The player chooses an angle and fires a ball, which then bounces automatically from pegs, walls, blocks, and other objects. Orange pegs must be cleared to finish the stage, while blue pegs mainly contribute points. Because the ball cannot be controlled after launch, success depends on predicting angles and using rebounds to reach difficult targets.

Peg Colors and Special Powers

Green pegs activate the ability of the current Peggle Master, while purple pegs provide a large score bonus. Different Masters change how a level can be approached, with powers that affect aiming, ball movement, additional shots, or the behavior of the playfield.

During a typical stage, players can:

  • aim the launcher before every shot;
  • hit orange pegs to work toward the main objective;
  • collect green pegs to trigger special abilities;
  • target purple pegs for extra points;
  • use rebounds to reach blocked areas;
  • catch balls in the moving bucket for free shots;
  • build larger scores through long and multi-peg hits.

The moving bucket travels along the bottom of the screen and can return a ball if it lands inside. This gives the player another chance without reducing the remaining supply, so planning shots that finish near the bucket can be useful on difficult boards.

Masters, Challenges, and Progression

The main adventure is divided into groups of levels connected to different Peggle Masters. As new Masters are introduced, their powers create different strategies while the basic objective remains unchanged. Later stages use denser layouts, moving obstacles, narrow angles, and more difficult orange-peg positions. Completing the main sequence also opens additional challenges with special conditions, limited resources, or score requirements.

Peggle does not rely on character upgrades or equipment. Improvement comes from better aim, stronger knowledge of bounce angles, and smarter use of powers. Replaying boards can help earn higher scores, clear difficult remaining pegs, and complete optional challenges that require more accurate planning.
