Windrose is an open-world PvE survival game set during the Age of Piracy. The player explores a large world by land and sea, gathers resources, builds a base, crafts equipment, fights enemies, and searches for treasure. There is no rigid level-by-level campaign. Instead, progression comes from travelling into new areas, improving equipment, defeating stronger enemies, and expanding what the player can build and use.

Exploration and Survival

The world can be explored on foot or by ship. Players travel between islands and coastal regions, search ruins and other points of interest, collect materials, and uncover hidden areas. Survival systems are connected to crafting and preparation, so gathering enough resources before travelling farther is important. Some areas contain stronger enemies and bosses, making better weapons and armor necessary for continued exploration.

Combat, Building, and Crafting

Combat uses a soulslite-style system where positioning, timing, and avoiding enemy attacks are important. Players can also develop a base and improve their equipment. Main gameplay activities include:

  •         exploring islands and coastal areas;
  •         gathering wood, ore, food, and other resources;
  •         building and expanding a base;
  •         crafting weapons, armor, and tools;
  •         fighting enemies on land;
  •         defeating bosses;
  •         sailing between locations;
  •         controlling ships during naval encounters;
  •         searching for treasure and hidden areas.

Ships and Naval Combat

Ships are an important part of both travel and combat. Players can command their own vessel, move between regions, and fight hostile ships using cannons. Different parts of a ship can take damage, including the hull, sails, and stern, so naval encounters involve more than simply reducing one health bar. Ships also allow access to locations that cannot be reached efficiently from land.

The basic gameplay loop consists of gathering resources, improving equipment, building a stronger base, travelling to new regions, fighting enemies, collecting loot, and returning with materials that support further progression. Bosses act as major combat challenges, while exploration provides additional resources and secrets. Because the world is open rather than divided into traditional stages, players can spend time building, sailing, fighting, or searching for treasure depending on what they want to improve next.
