Zeverland is an open-world survival game set at the beginning of a zombie apocalypse rather than years after civilization has collapsed. The player enters a world where towns, farms, roads, and infrastructure still remain but are quickly becoming dangerous. There is no fixed linear story campaign announced as the main structure. Instead, the objective is to survive, establish a place to live, gather useful materials, and eventually take part in rebuilding parts of the world.
Using Anything You Can Find
Most objects in the environment can be interacted with, dismantled, or reused. Players can search abandoned buildings, break open machines for supplies, and combine ordinary objects into tools or weapons. Crafting allows unusual combinations, such as attaching different pieces of equipment together instead of relying only on predefined weapon types. Vehicles can also be modified, including turning an RV into a mobile base with furniture and useful equipment.
Building a Place to Survive
Players can construct shelters and expand them with beds, water purification, gardens, defenses, and other facilities. NPC survivors can be recruited to work at the base as cooks, builders, guards, tailors, and other specialists. This makes it possible to divide work between the player and recruited characters while continuing to explore the open world.
The main activities include:
- searching buildings and abandoned locations for resources;
- dismantling and modifying objects;
- crafting weapons from different items;
- fighting Zeds and surviving encounters;
- building and improving a permanent or mobile base;
- recruiting NPC survivors for different jobs;
- cooperating with other players on larger projects.
Being bitten does not automatically end a playthrough. Zeverland allows the character to continue after becoming undead, creating another way to survive in the infected world. Combat and preparation become increasingly important because Zeds can present different threats, while better equipment can be assembled from materials collected during exploration.
Rebuilding the World
Zeverland does not use traditional numbered levels. Progress comes from surviving longer, improving equipment, developing a base, and participating in larger reconstruction projects. Players can repair bridges, restore infrastructure, work toward creating a vaccine, build large structures, or pursue other ways of changing the post-apocalyptic world. The open map includes mountains, lakes, deserted towns, and abandoned farms, allowing players to travel alone or cooperate while deciding how their version of civilization should develop.
